Advantages of Sedation Dentistry
Many people avoid the dentist’s office out of fear or anxiety. If a dental phobia is keeping you from getting the care you need, sedation dentistry might be the solution. At Sanchez Dental, we specialize in sedation dentistry and are proud to help our Albuquerque patients overcome their fears and receive the dental care they need!
Why Would I Need Sedation?
Sedation dentistry is a great solution for people who experience anxiety at the dentist’s office. But its benefits extend beyond easing the fear of patients with dental phobias:
- It provides a pain-free experience. Coupled with local anesthetic, sedation ensures that you will experience no discomfort during your dental procedure.
- It makes it easier to sit still through a procedure. This is especially helpful for children and others who have a hard time sitting still without fidgeting.
- It enables us to work more quickly. The dentist can accomplish more in one session, and sessions can be longer. This means you’ll see results more quickly!
We offer sedation as an option for every procedure. Just let us know that you’d feel more comfortable being sedated, and we’ll work with you to ensure you have a safe and pleasant experience!
How Does Sedation Work?
Sedation is different from anesthesia. You will be conscious, although you may be drowsy. Sedated patients are deeply relaxed and usually have little to no memory of their procedure after the fact. In our office, we primarily offer oral sedatives in pill form.
While you wait for the sedative to take effect, you can make yourself comfortable in our office and watch television or read a magazine; once the sedative has taken hold, we will complete the dental procedure. Afterward, you’ll recover quietly for a while before having someone drive you home. Our patients report that the entire experience is a very comfortable and positive one!
