Tooth restoration, better known as a filling, is a powerful tool for repairing damage and preventing further tooth decay. At Sanchez Dental, we use tooth-colored composite fillings in order to protect the natural appearance of your teeth. Whether you need a new filling or would like to replace your old amalgam fillings, we have the tools and experience necessary to restore your smile.
How Do Fillings Work?
The outer layer of your tooth, the enamel, provides protection and structural support. If the enamel is damaged due to decay or other reasons, it puts the softer inner layers at risk of infection and, ultimately, tooth loss. A filling prevents damage and decay from spreading by filling the gaps in the enamel, restoring strength and protection to the tooth.
When you get a filling, the dentist will first remove all signs of decay. The gap will then be filled with a special substance that will harden and fuse with the tooth.
Benefits of White Composite Fillings
Although many materials can be used as fillings, including precious metals like silver, at Sanchez Dental we use a white-colored composite made of plastic and fine particles of porcelain. When this resin sets up, it is nearly indistinguishable from the surrounding tooth enamel. This means that no one will ever notice that you have a filling, and you won’t have to be self-conscious about smiling even if the filling is in a front tooth!
The resin used for fillings is the same as we use for tooth bonding, which is used to repair cracked and broken front teeth. It can be custom-tinted to perfectly match the shade of your existing teeth and bonds to the enamel for greater strength.
